Family Time

I feel like I've been neglecting this little blog for the last month or so. I'm usually in the middle of some quilty or scrapbooky goodness to share with you all, but since May, we've had company staying us and I haven't had a lot of time to make anything.

The time I have been in the studio was spent helping our beautiful niece Kenzie make a few projects. One project was this wall pocket from the book Modern Mix that she plans on hanging over her desk in her dorm room next fall. I think she did a great job.

 

 

While Kenzie was busy working on her project, I made these little bibs from Going Sew Crazy for a co-worker's baby shower. They were quick and easy to whip up and turned out so cute.

Now our nephew Michael is here with us for a month after just graduating from the University of Washington. Congratulations Michael! He's not much for crafting, but he will join me in the studio to watch a movie while I'm sewing.

In less than two weeks we'll be on our way to Sisters, Oregon for the big Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and our family vacation in Sunriver, Oregon, so I probably won't be doing much sewing or scrapbooking until the end of July. But it has been so great having the kids here with us and we've enjoyed going to the beach, watching movies, having family game nights playing croquet, ladder golf, Big Bang Clue, and Monopoly, drinking rootbeer floats and "Harry Potter Butterbeer" and just being together.

The Big Reveal

A month and a half ago we started a master bathroom remodel.  I came home the day it started to a completely empty room and I was so excited.  Our bathroom was 20 years old and all we'd ever done to it was paint a few times and install a new light fixture.  It was due (actually overdue!) for a remodel.  

We call it a "master bath" because it's off our bedroom, but there was nothing masterful about it.  It was your basic small bathroom:  oak vanity, formica countertop, big plate glass mirror, vinyl flooring, and an ugly fiberglass tub and shower.  As you see can here, not so pretty.

But now it looks like this!

The biggest change is the new big shower that took the place of the fiberglass tub and shower. We're so happy with the way it turned out, but now I'm experiencing that "rest of the house looks a little shabby" syndrome.  Hmmm, which room should I work on now?

WIP Wednesday

It's Work in Progress Wednesday and today I have new pillow tops to share.  A few weeks ago I went to the Sewing Expo in Puyallup and I found this great new book called "Pillow Pop". I loved every pillow in the book and it was hard to choose which one to make first, but I finally decided to make "The Metro" by Jen Carlton Bailly.  

I bought seven fat quarters of different Kona solids at the Stitchin' Post booth at the Sewing Expo and paired those with some linen I had in my stash.  I quilted the pillows with varigated thread.  

Now I just need to buy some fabric for the backs and get them finished so I can enjoy them on the sofa in my living room.

The Start of Something Great

At least I hope this is the start of something great.  I've been thinking about starting a blog for several years, but just didn't know where to begin.  A little scared, I guess.  What would I blog about?  Would anybody read it?  How do I even get started?  Then I found the on-line class "Web Design for Bloggers" by one of my favorite bloggers, Elise Blaha, and I knew it was just what I needed. 

I learned a lot in the class and had fun designing my blog.  The class has been over for a few weeks now and I've been fooling with my blog layout, moving things around, adding things, deleting things, basically procrastinating about writing my first post.  Still a little scared, but finally I just jumped in.

So I'm glad you found your way to my little corner of blogland.  I plan to fill this space with words and pictures of my many quilting, sewing, scrapbooking, card making, and home decorating projects.  I'll even share some knitting "works in progress" (I'm a slow knitter) which will hopefully encourage me to actually finish them.  And every once in a while I'll share pictures of my dogs, Rory and Baxley, and my cats, Bodie and Zoey because they are always a big help when I'm working in the studio.  At least they think so.
